About This Call
San Angelo is the official visual arts capital of Texas and harbors a diverse and robust ceramics community. This competition hosted by Angelo State University is open to any talented graduate students in the US currently working in ceramic as a primary material. The exhibition is part of the 2023 San Angelo Ceramics Symposium event sponsored by the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts.
Eligible applicants may submit a maximum of three works per student. Original artwork including ceramics or mixed media (ceramics up to 60% of work) may be submitted. All three-dimensional works must be stable and either free-standing or hung on the wall. Pedestals will be provided. Each submission requires title, date, size (H x W x D), medium, price or "Not for Sale" designation, detailed description of materials and techniques, bio, and artist website or social media if applicable. Applicants may submit 3 images per application (one main image and two detail images), with only one piece of art per application. Entry fee is $30.00.
The juror is Brad Schwieger, Professor of Ceramics at Ohio University since 1990. His work is included in collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Renwick Gallery in Washington, DC, and the Mint Museum of Craft and Design in Charlotte, NC. The award includes a monetary award plus a purchase offer from the director of the San Angelo Museum of Fine Art for inclusion in the Museum collection.
