About This Call
ANCIENT - Emerald Art Quilt Exhibition 2020 invites art quilts exploring the theme of ANCIENT. The concept encourages artists to look back at ancient civilizations, first forms of writing, ancient artwork, historical photographs, cultural legends, and lost civilizations. Artists are invited to expand their interpretation of ANCIENT and create meaningful and striking works of art.
All work must relate to the theme ANCIENT and meet the definition of an Art Quilt: "a creative visual work that is layered and stitched or that references this form of stitched layered construction." Only original artwork conceived and created by the entrant is eligible. Two-dimensional and three-dimensional works are considered; installation works are not eligible due to space limitations. Artists may submit up to 3 pieces. Collaborative works are accepted if all names are noted. Local, regional, national, and international artists are invited to submit.
For 2D work, dimensions must be WIDTH 24" minimum to 36" maximum; HEIGHT 30" minimum to 60" maximum. Artwork must have a 4" hanging sleeve at least 1" from the top with 1" allowance on each side. For 3D work, maximum height is 48" with a maximum footprint of 24" for display on provided free-standing pedestals. All entries must have a label sewn to the back (or bottom for 3D) with artist name, title, email address, and website if applicable. Entry fee is $30 for 1, 2, or 3 art quilts. Each quilt requires two images: overall and detail. Artwork may be offered for sale; Emerald Art Center commission is 35%. Entry deadline is January 11, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Notification of jury results will be made by February 3, 2020. Exhibition dates are March 3-27, 2020, with an opening reception on March 7, 2020. The exhibition will travel to Yachats Commons in Yachats, OR on April 11-12, 2020. Awards include: $250 Gold Medal, $200 Silver Medal, $150 Bronze Medal, $100 Best Use of Materials, $100 Innovative Use of Theme, $100 Innovative Use of Construction, and $100 People's Choice Award. Juror is Ruth Bass, contemporary fiber artist and art curator. For questions, contact Ginny McVickar, exhibition coordinator, at [email protected].
