About This Call

The annual Juried Fine Art Exhibition, Arts at the Port, is the crown jewel of the Anacortes Arts Festival, held August 2-4, 2019. The exhibition showcases regional fine art to an estimated audience of 90,000 visitors. Selected artists will display 1-6 pieces working in both 2D and 3D media. The exhibition is housed in the Port of Anacortes Transit Shed Event Center, a rustic waterfront setting at the north end of the Festival. Arts at the Port also includes the Allen Family Invitational Gallery and Emerging Artist Exhibition.

Juror Joanna Sikes is Executive Director of the Museum of Northwest Art in LaConner. She previously served as Founding Executive Director of the Imagine Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida, and worked closely with Dale Chihuly as Studio Manager. Her experience includes positions at the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Phoenix Fine Arts Museum, Crocker Museum of Art, and the American Federation of Arts.

Artists are eligible for up to $11,000 in awards: $2,500 Best of Show, $2,000 Excellence Award (2 @ $1,000 each), $2,000 Festival Awards (2 @ $1,000 each), $2,000 "Anacortes Collects" Festival Public Art Purchase Award, $1,000 Eve Deisher Creative Excellence Award, $1,000 People's Choice Award, and $500 T Bailey Corporate Award. Entry fee is $35. Artists must submit 3-6 images of their work. Both 2D work (drawing, painting, mixed media, monoprints, photography, digitally generated art, video) and 3D work (sculpture, fine crafts including fiber, ceramics, metals, glass, wood, basketry, jewelry, installation) are invited. Installation and video artists must submit a separate written or drawn proposal with 5 images of past work.

No reproduced work (except photography or digitally created) will be accepted. No work displayed or for sale elsewhere in the Festival will be accepted. No work previously shown in the Juried Exhibition will be accepted. Artists may not substitute, alter, change the price, or withdraw work after acceptance. Artwork must be available from July 21 through August 4, 2019. Mailed work must arrive before July 18, 2019 and requires a $20 handling fee plus actual return costs. All accepted work must be for sale; the Festival retains a 50% commission (40% for bronze sculpture) and will handle sales. The Festival will insure accepted work up to $2,500 per piece; additional insurance must be covered by the artist. Notification of acceptance will be provided by April 30, 2019. For questions about work that doesn't fit the online format, contact the Festival office at 360-293-6211 or email [email protected].
