About This Call
An Open Art Competition: Embodying Masonic Values, sponsored by The Masonic Library and Museum of Pennsylvania, invites artists to submit work displaying a visual interpretation of some aspect of Freemasonry in Pennsylvania, whether philosophical, historical, scientific, social, fraternal, charitable, or architectural. Selected artwork will be exhibited in the Masonic Temple in Philadelphia, constructed in 1873 and recognized as one of the great "wonders" of the Masonic world.
Eligibility: Any amateur or professional artist or college art student may enter, provided they are at least 18 years of age. All submissions must be original work created within the past two years; previously exhibited work is acceptable, but work produced on commission will not be accepted. All submissions must be available for purchase. Artists may submit up to three entries at $25 for the first entry and $10 each for additional entries. Work samples should include 1-12 images. Accepted media categories include oil, three-dimensional work, drawing and print-making, water-based medium, and digital imagery. Artwork dimensions must be between 6 inches minimum and 48 inches x 72 inches maximum.
Awards include $200 per category winner, a $500 Grand Master's Prize, and a $1,000 Best in Show Prize. Jury selection will be announced September 4, 2019. Drop-off and pickup of artwork must be arranged in person or through a designated representative between September 3 and October 3, 2019 (drop-off) and November 5-12, 2019 (pickup). The Grand Exhibition Gala opens October 4, 2019, at the Masonic Temple with a cocktail reception, live music, and live auction. The exhibition remains open to the public October 8-31, 2019. Artists may optionally participate in an auction of their work, with 80 percent of auction proceeds going to the artist and 20 percent to the museum.
