An Open Art Competition: Embodying Masonic Values

An Open Art Competition: Embodying Masonic Values, sponsored by The Masonic Library and Museum of Pennsylvania. All artwork entries must display a visual interpretation of some aspect of Freemasonry in Pennsylvania, whether philosophical, historical, scientific, social, fraternal, charitable, or architectural. Selected artwork will be exhibited in the Masonic Temple in Philadelphia, constructed in 1873 and located at One N. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107-2598.

Eligibility: Any amateur or professional artist or college art student may enter, but all will be judged as equals. Artists must be at least 18 years of age. All submissions must be original, created within the past two years, and may have been previously exhibited. No work previously produced on a commission will be accepted. All submissions must be available for purchase. Accepted media categories include oil, three-dimensional work, drawing and print-making, water-based medium, and digital imagery. Artwork dimensions must be between 6 inches minimum and 48 inches x 72 inches maximum. Entry fee: $25 for first entry, $10 each for second and third entries. Maximum three entries per artist regardless of media type. Additional images may be submitted for a $10 media fee.

Awards: $200 prize per winner per category, $500 Grand Master's Prize, and $1,000 Best in Show Prize. Jurors: Brother Alvin E. Just, D.D.G.M.-41, William Scott Noel (Painter), and Moe A. Brooker (Painter). Entry deadline: August 15, 2018 by midnight EST. Jury selection announced September 19, 2018. Drop-off and pickup of artwork must be done in person or by designated representative on assigned dates: Drop-off September 24 – October 3, 2018; Pickup November 5 – 10, 2018. The Grand Exhibition Gala opening reception will be held Friday, October 5 at the Masonic Temple, featuring cocktail reception, live music, announcement of winners, and live auction. The exhibition will be open to the public Saturday, October 6 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Artists may participate in an auction of their work, with 80 percent of auction value going to the artist and 20 percent to The Masonic Library and Museum of Pennsylvania. Artists may set a reserve price and direct purchase price for original work.
