About This Call
The AMoA Biennial 600: Textile/Fiber is a juried exhibition of artworks selected from entries submitted by artists residing within a 600-mile radius of Amarillo, Texas. The exhibition will be on view October 11–December 22, 2019. This is the eighth in an ongoing series of juried biennial exhibitions exploring specific areas of artistic practice, material, and content. Previous exhibition focuses include Drawing ('05), Clay ('07), Glass ('09), Figurative Painting ('11), Printmaking ('13), Sculpture ('15), and Architecture ('17).
Eligible works must consist primarily of textile/fiber materials and technique. Artists whose work could be sited outdoors are encouraged to submit proposals, as are artists with installation-based practices, though the nature of the museum's exterior and interior spaces does impose limits. Artists whose work requires exceptionally challenging handling or installation may be required to assist with installation and de-installation on-site. There is no entry fee. Artists must be 18 years of age or older and reside within a 600-mile radius of Amarillo, Texas. Artists may submit images or video of up to three artworks with a maximum of three additional detail images of each work.
The juror is Alec Unkovic, Exhibitions Manager at The Fabric Workshop and Museum in Philadelphia, PA. Four awards will be chosen by the juror: Best of Show, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. The AMoA will publish a brochure to document the exhibition, with images of award-winning works included in the publication. Each participating artist will receive two copies of the brochure. The museum does not take a commission on works sold as a result of the exhibition; interested buyers will be referred directly to the artist. Deadline for entries: August 10, 2019. Artist notifications: on or before August 30, 2019. Accepted artworks due at the AMoA: September 27, 2019. Installation begins October 4, 2019.
