About This Call
Since 1996, American Tapestry Alliance (ATA) has sponsored a biennial, juried exhibition inviting submissions from tapestry artists around the world. The exhibition includes artists who work within traditional definitions of tapestry as well as those whose work expands upon the core principles of the medium through new techniques and processes. This year, ATA will provide a monetary award recognizing experimentation of materiality and dimensionality within tapestry weaving, in addition to the current Teitelbaum awards.
ATB 14: New Dimensions will take place May 12 - July 20, 2023 at the Appalachian Center for Crafts. Entries should consist of handwoven/manipulated forms that are approximately 80% weft-faced dominant. Artists may submit up to 3 works per application, with one image per work (no detail images). For each work, provide title, dimensions, materials, and date of creation/completion. All artists working with tapestry techniques in 2D and 3D may apply. The entry fee is $40.00 (ATA members receive a discount with provided code). Artists will be notified of acceptance status on January 12, 2023. ATA will produce a catalog of the exhibit.
Juror: Rena Wood, Assistant Professor of Fiber Art at Tennessee Tech University's Appalachian Center for Craft, holds a BFA from Kansas City Art Institute (2006) and an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in Craft/Material Studies (2013).
