About This Call
The American Impressionist Society 12th Annual National Juried Exhibition takes place at Mountainsong Galleries in Carmel-By-The-Sea, California from October 15 to November 15, 2011. The exhibition promotes the appreciation of American Impressionism through works emphasizing light and color, using broken brush strokes and impasto spots of color. Over $50,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded, including Best of Show ($15,000), Second Place ($8,000), Third Place ($4,000), William Schultz Award for Oil ($2,000), President's Choice Award ($2,000), Southwest Art Award of Excellence (Full Page Advertisement valued at $3,175), American Art Collector Award of Excellence (Full Page Advertisement valued at $3,000), and Corporate & Merit Awards.
Participants must be current AIS members with 2011 membership dues of $50 paid by July 1st. The entry fee is $48 for up to three paintings: two large paintings not larger than 36"x48" (or up to 1728 sq. in.) and one miniature not larger than 6"x8" (or up to 48 sq. in.). Maximum of one large and one miniature painting per artist will be juried into the show. Work must be original, impressionistic in style, created within the last two years, and not previously exhibited in an AIS show. Acceptable mediums are oil, pastel, acrylic, or watercolor (no mixed medium). Paintings must be suitably framed in fine art gallery-quality wood frames, wired and ready for hanging. No metal frames are permitted.
Accepted works must be delivered to Mountainsong Galleries between October 3-7, 2011, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The opening reception and awards presentation is October 21 from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sales are split 60% to artist, 30% to gallery, and 10% to AIS. All artwork must be for sale. Unsold work will be shipped back to artists on November 23. Digital entry deadline is July 1 at midnight MST via CaFE. Entrant notification will be emailed and made available at the AIS website and CaFE on July 22.
