About This Call
American Craft Today: Glass is a juried exhibition at The Bascom in Highlands, North Carolina. The exhibition runs from September 5 to December 6, 2015, with a public opening and artist reception on Saturday, September 5, 2015, from 5-7pm, and awards presentation at 6pm.
Artists may submit one or two digital images via CaFÉ for a $35 non-refundable entry fee. An artist may submit two artworks (one photograph each) or one artwork (two photographs) for consideration. Glass must be the primary medium of entered works. Multi-piece installations will not be accepted unless already complete (pieces must be fixed in place on a stand or in a vitrine). The entry deadline is July 3, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Mailed payments must be postmarked no later than July 3, 2015 and sent to Margaret Browne (Attn: American Craft Today), The Bascom, 323 Franklin Road, Highlands, NC, 28741.
Juror Melissa George Post, an independent arts professional and former curator at the Museum of Glass, Mint Museum of Craft + Design, and Corning Museum of Glass, will select works for the exhibition. Juror's choices will be announced on the CaFÉ website on July 27, 2015. Invited artists will receive notification via email with an artist agreement the week of July 27. Awards totaling $5,500 will be distributed at the juror's discretion: Best of Show-$1,600; 1st-$1,200; 2nd-$1,000; 3rd-$900; 4th-$800. The Bascom notifies artists of awards September 5 via email.
Accepted artworks must be delivered to Ian Ward, The Bascom, 323 Franklin Road, Highlands, NC, 28741, during operating hours (9am-5pm, M-F), between August 20-28, 2015. Works must arrive no later than August 28, 2015. Shipping and insurance costs to and from the art center are the artist's responsibility. The Bascom will insure works while on campus. Works must be shipped in a single reusable carton or crate and ready for installation with clear identification attached. A prepaid return shipping label must be included with entry. Works will be returned the week of December 13, 2015.
Works will be for sale during the exhibition if the artist desires, with the artist setting the retail price. The Bascom receives a 40% commission on artwork sold during the exhibition, with artists receiving a check for 60% of the sale within 30 days of the exhibition closing. Artists with exclusive representation may opt out of the sales agreement. For additional information, contact Ian Ward, Exhibitions Designer, 828-787-2878, [email protected] or Margaret Browne, Exhibitions Curator, 828-787-2862, [email protected].
