About This Call

Arts for Rural Texas (ARTS) invites artists to submit work for a juried art competition and exhibition celebrating the United States' 250th anniversary. The exhibition seeks work that reflects on the people, places, history, and ideals that have shaped the nation, exploring the diversity, complexity, and evolving story of the American experience. Artists are encouraged to interpret the theme broadly, exploring historical events, cultural traditions, iconic landscapes, everyday life, national symbols, or personal narratives.

Artists must be 18 years of age or older and reside in the United States. Artists may submit up to three entries at $35 for the first entry, $25 for the second, and $15 for the third. Entry fees are non-refundable. All work must be original in concept and design; reproductions, stock images, and AI-generated art are not accepted. Accepted artwork categories include painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics, and fiber. Two-dimensional works should not exceed 30 inches in height and 24 inches in width and must be framed and ready to hang. Three-dimensional works requiring special support must include that support. The top 50 entries will be selected for the juried exhibition at the ARTS Ross Gallery in Fayetteville, Texas.

The entry deadline is May 1, 2026 at 4:00 PM. Notification of acceptance will be sent May 8, 2026, with artwork delivery due June 1, 2026. The exhibition runs June 13 - July 25, 2026, with an opening reception and awards ceremony on June 13 from 4:00 - 6:00 PM. The gallery is open Tuesday - Saturday from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Artwork pickup/return is July 27 - 31, 2026. Thirteen awards will be presented for artistic excellence, including honorable mentions in 2D and 3D categories with $100 gift certificates. Award recipients will receive ribbons and recognition on the ARTS website, social media, and in local publications. Over $6,000 in awards will be presented. Artists retain copyright of their work. Sales commissions are split 60% to the artist and 40% to ARTS after state sales tax is paid.
