Amazing Portraits -- Human and Animal

The MVA Gallery (Modern Visual Arts) invites artists and photographers of all levels to submit original artwork to this exhibition. This is a national call for entries featuring both human and animal portraits.

Human portraits may include traditional or non-traditional styles of individuals, couples, or groups shown in close-up, half-length, or full-body poses. Submissions can present idealized, neutral, psychological, satirical, celebratory, or cultural impressions. Environmental portraits showing individuals in their surroundings are welcome, as are self-portraits and selfies. Animal portraits should capture domesticated or wild animals in their preferred environments or natural habitats, revealing their unique personalities. A person may be included to explore human-animal interaction. Artists are encouraged to submit representational or non-representational work in any style—realistic, abstract, cubist, expressionist, or a synthesis of styles. Accepted mediums include painting, watercolor, printmaking, mixed media, digital, pastel, encaustic, sculpture, fiber, drawing, and photography.

Entry fee is $35.00 for 3 images, with additional images available for $5.00 each up to a maximum of 9 images. All images must be JPEG format, under 5 MB, with a minimum of 1200 pixels on the longest side. Submissions must include title, medium, size, price, and year of completion. Artwork must be professionally finished and ready for installation with stretched wire attached to the back. Pieces should not exceed 48 inches (framed) on the longest side or weigh more than 45 pounds. The exhibition runs January 12 through February 11, 2023. Awards include First Prize $450, Second Prize $250, and Third Prize $100. One artist will be selected from all accepted artists during the calendar year for an exhibition opportunity in New York City. Notification of acceptance will be sent by December 10, 2022. Accepted artwork must arrive at the gallery by January 9, 2023. Artists are responsible for all shipping costs and insurance. The gallery is located in historic Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, approximately one hour from New York City.
