Alternative Fiber: A National Juried Exhibition

LHUCA presents Alternative Fiber: A National Juried Exhibition, celebrating alternative uses of fiber and textile material. In recent years the use of fiber and textile has greatly expanded creating art that no longer easily fits into the category of craft. New art has been constructed utilizing these materials in both sculptural, two dimensional, and even installation practice. This exhibition will focus on these ideas as a juried art show highlighting the many alternative ideas present in these mediums.

Juror: Karena Bennett, Executive Director of Surface Design Association (SDA), an international non-profit focused on fiber art and design. Over the last two decades, Karena has worked with a variety of arts organizations across the Northwest ranging from small galleries to higher education institutions.

Eligibility: Artists must be at least 18 years of age and living in the United States. Entry fee is $25 for up to three entries. Artists may submit two images per artwork per entry, with a minimum of 1 and maximum of 6 total samples. Entry deadline: Monday, May 9, 2022. Notification date: Tuesday, May 17, 2022 via email. Delivery deadline: Tuesday, May 31, 2022. Exhibition dates: June 3 – July 30, 2022. Opening receptions during First Friday Art Trail: June 3 and July 1, 2022 from 6-9 pm. Return shipping: Week of August 1, 2022.

Cash Prizes: 1st place $300, 2nd place $150, Two Honorable Mentions $50 each. Artists are responsible for shipping their work and associated costs.
