About This Call
The City of Altamonte Springs seeks a professional artist or artist team working in three-dimensional media to create a permanent site-specific crane artwork for Cranes Roost Park. The artwork should reflect the unique character and spirit of the community. The total budget for the project is $169,800, which covers artists' fees, travel, insurance, documentation and installation-related expenses including permitting, infrastructure, lighting and fabrication.
Cranes Roost Park is a 45-acre venue located one block from I-4 at the heart of Uptown Altamonte, featuring a European-style plaza, choreographed fountain show, 62-foot tower, amphitheater with floating stage, and one mile of continuous walkway around Cranes Roost Lake. The City is open to artist recommendations regarding placement and will make the final decision.
Artwork will be selected based on quality and originality, suitability to the environment, durability in Florida's subtropical climate with intense sun, seasonal heavy rains and hurricane-force winds, safety and public liability, maintenance requirements, incorporation of a crane as Altamonte Springs' symbolic figure, and preference for technology and innovative concepts supporting the City's Smart City mission. Applicants must submit a professional résumé, letter of interest, minimum three professional references of completed public art, and an image portfolio of 3-10 JPEG images. Experience with public art projects of similar budget is desired. The City will give preference to local artists and those utilizing technology and innovative concepts. Following initial selection, shortlisted artists will receive a $2,000 stipend to develop a scope of work, proposed outcomes, project calendar and budget. The submission deadline is November 11, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. MST.
