About This Call

National Basketry Organization (NBO) invites submissions for All Things Considered 9, a biennial juried exhibition focused on traditional and contemporary basketry. The traveling exhibition will be held July 20, 2017 – March 30, 2018 at American Art Company, 1126 Broadway Plaza, Tacoma, Washington, and will also travel to Sally D. Francisco Gallery, Peters Valley School of Art, and Society of Arts + Crafts, Boston through March 2018.

NBO is a national non-profit organization with a mission of promoting and preserving the art, skill, heritage and education of traditional and contemporary basketry techniques. The All Things Considered exhibitions serve as an important record of artistic work within basketry and showcase benchmarks of excellence in traditional and sculptural basketry that demonstrate superior technique and original concept and design. Artists selected for the exhibition will receive one complimentary copy of the exhibition catalog. All work in the show will be featured in a gallery of photographs on the NBO website and given exposure in other online media.

Submissions will be evaluated on concept, design, technique, craftsmanship and creative exploration. Up to 3 works may be submitted with up to 6 total images (one overall image and one detail per work). Images should be no smaller than 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72 ppi/dpi resolution. Include retail price for each work or insurance value if not for sale, and a brief artist statement (maximum 1000 characters). Entry fee is $40 for non-members or $35 for members. Jury notification will be sent March 15, 2017. Accepted entries must be received by June 24 – July 1, 2017. Multiple Juror's Awards totaling $3000 will be given. Lloyd E. Herman, former founding Director of the Smithsonian Institution's Renwick Gallery, will serve as juror.
