About This Call

The Anchorage Museum invites entries to the All-Alaska Biennial, featuring contemporary work by Alaska artists. This juried exhibition is a continuation of the Museum's All-Alaska Juried and Earth, Fire & Fibre exhibitions, which began more than 30 years ago to encourage the creation of new works by Alaska artists in all media. The process is open to Alaskan artists working in all media, including digital and new media.

The exhibition will open to the public October 19, 2018 in the 1st floor galleries of the Anchorage Museum and will travel to other venues in Alaska after it closes in Anchorage February 3, 2019. The guest juror is Candice Hopkins, a citizen of Carcross/Tagish First Nation in Yukon, Canada, and an independent curator and writer based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was a curator for documenta 14 in 2017 and has held curatorial positions at the IAIA Museum of Contemporary Native Arts, National Gallery of Canada, Western Front Society, and Walter Phillips Gallery at Banff Centre. In 2015, she received the Hnatyshyn Foundation Award for Curatorial Excellence in Contemporary Art.

Entry deadline for digital entries is July 6, 2018, with Phase I notification on August 8, 2018. Each artist may submit up to four works for a non-refundable $25 entry fee. Only artists residing in Alaska are eligible. Entries may be submitted only by the artist or their agent. Copies and work done under instruction are ineligible. All works must have been completed within the last two years. Entries selected for Phase II judging must be delivered to the Anchorage Museum between August 8 and September 8, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday (excluding Labor Day, September 4). All entries must be ready for installation. Framed artwork with dimensions larger than 24" x 30" should be covered with plexiglass rather than glass.
