About This Call
The Anchorage Museum invites entries to the All-Alaska Biennial, celebrating four decades of work by Alaskan artists. The Museum's juried exhibitions began more than 30 years ago to encourage the creation of new works by Alaska artists in all media. The exhibition will open to the public January 29, 2016 in the 3rd floor galleries of the Anchorage Museum, as part of the Museum's Polar Lab year, exploring contemporary views of the North and Arctic in all new and traditional media.
The All-Alaska Biennial will celebrate the contemporary work of Alaskan artists and works are encouraged to explore the authentic North, its people, materials and landscapes, through a variety of interpretations. The exhibition will travel to other venues in Alaska after it closes in Anchorage on April 10, 2016. The juror is Jen Budney, an independent writer and curator who has held positions with the Mendel Art Gallery, Kamloops Art Gallery, Canada Council for the Arts, Gallery 101, and Flash Art International.
Only artists residing in Alaska are eligible. Each artist may submit up to four works for a non-refundable $25 entry fee. Works must have been completed within the last two years. Entries may be submitted only by the artist or his/her agent; copies and work done under instruction are ineligible. Submissions should include 1-6 images and/or up to 6 videos. Phase I judging is by digital entries only; Phase II selections are made by viewing actual work. Selected entries must be delivered to the Anchorage Museum between November 9 and November 20 between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. All entries must be ready for installation or framed and ready to hang. Framed artwork with dimensions larger than 24" x 30" should be covered with plexiglass. Cash Juror Awards and honorable mentions will be awarded. Phase I Notification: October 2, 2015.
