All About Pastel

This is a juried exhibition open to all current Southeastern Pastel Society (SPS) members. Paintings must be created in the past 2 years and be original works in dry pastel (no oil pastels). Mixed media works are eligible if predominantly dry pastel with the final surface being at least 80% traditional dry pastel. Works must be painted from life, from your own reference photo, or from imagination—not copied from other artists, published materials, or instructor-provided references. Digital or AI-produced artwork is not eligible. Artwork created in classroom, workshop, or online group settings is not eligible. All artwork must be originally drawn and not created on top of any photographic image. Final sprays or acrylic sealants are not acceptable; pastel fixative is appropriate.

Paintings may not have been accepted into or won an award in any previous SPS exhibition, though previously submitted but rejected works may be resubmitted. All subjects and styles are eligible, from traditional to contemporary. Subject matter must be appropriate for all ages; tasteful nudes and figure studies are acceptable. Images of violence, specific political agendas, and pornography will not be accepted. Artwork sent to the show must be exactly the same piece as the photo submitted.

Entry fees are $35 for up to 2 works and $10 for each additional work up to 5 works. Artists must ship artwork in commercial art shipping boxes (such as MasterPak, Airfloat Systems, or Uline) with a pre-paid return label included. Artwork must be picked up by the carrier after the exhibition closing date. Frames and paintings damaged during shipping are not the responsibility of SPS or Alpharetta Arts Center; insurance through the shipping carrier is recommended. Submit high-quality JPEG images at least 1920 pixels on the longest edge with a maximum file size of 30 MB. Images should be cropped to show only the artwork without matting, frames, or background. The entry deadline is February 10, 2025.
