Alexander Rutsch Award and Exhibition for Painting 2025

Pelham Art Center announces the 13th biennial Alexander Rutsch Award and Exhibition for Painting, a juried competition open to U.S.-based artists aged 19 and older. The competition honors the memory and artistic achievement of Alexander Rutsch (1916–1997), who actively supported Pelham Art Center for more than 25 years.

The prize winner receives a $7,500 cash award, a solo exhibition at Pelham Art Center, and a printed catalog. An additional $2,500 is divided among finalists. The exhibition will run May 22 – July 13, 2025, with an opening reception and award presentation on Thursday, May 22, 2025 from 6–8 PM. Finalists will be notified the week of January 26, 2025, and the winner will be notified in March 2025.

Entries must be submitted through the CaFE website between August 15, 2024 and December 15, 2024. The entry fee is $25 per applicant for five digital images. Submissions must be in JPEG format, no smaller than 1200 pixels on the longest side, 72 ppi/dpi resolution, and 5 MB maximum file size. All submitted images must be available for possible exhibition. Paintings must not exceed 84 x 84 inches. Finalists will be required to submit an artist's statement, résumé, and images of 20 additional available works. For questions, contact [email protected].
