About This Call
The Art Selection Committee seeks a work or works of 3-dimensional art suitable for installation in the Rio Grande Roundabout. The committee is interested in existing sculptures that connect with themes of nature and natural elements along the Rio Grande in Albuquerque's north valley, including wildlife, plant life, and other suitable imagery. Figurative sculpture of people will not be considered. The sculptural artworks should serve as a landmark to the renowned Rio Grande Nature Center State Park while also serving local residents with a beautiful, relevant design.
The sculpture site is the planned sculpture area within the roundabout circle next to recently established landscaping. The sculpture should be at least 10 feet tall but not exceed 40 feet. The proposed sculpture should be able to be placed on its own sculpture pad not to exceed the dimensions of the available area within the roundabout circle. Submissions should be in stone, metal, or other outdoor materials that are easily maintained.
This is a regional, open competition for legal residents of New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, Utah, or Colorado. Proof of residency may be required. Artists may submit up to two artwork sculpture submissions for consideration. Submissions must include: a statement or description of the proposed or existing sculptural work(s) not to exceed 500 words; a current resume including statements regarding artwork, art education, and past work not to exceed 500 words; and an image key clearly labeled with full name, numerical listing for each image, title of work, media, dimensions, year of completion, and purchase cost. $40,000 is available to purchase an artwork or multiple artworks for the site. The all-inclusive project budget includes complete purchase of an existing sculpture or sculptures, as well as transportation and engineer-designed and approved foundation and installation of the artwork(s).
