About This Call
The Albuquerque Public Art program is seeking to purchase existing 2-D artworks created by New Mexico artists. The committee is interested in works that demonstrate compelling craftsmanship and technique in media including painting, printmaking, watercolor, drawing, collage, weaving, mixed media, photography, and assemblage. Digital photography and original works must be printed on archival paper using archival inks; Giclee reproductions will not be accepted.
Eligible artworks must be traditional or contemporary 2-D original art (landscape, figurative, or abstract) completed within the last three years and appropriate for public display at city facilities. Artwork depicting violence, inappropriate nudity, denigration of individuals and cultures, or desecration of cultural symbols will be reviewed for appropriateness. Religious subject matter or symbols may be included if not placed where they can be revered or used in religious service. Exhibition sites will include Albuquerque City Hall, Convention Center complexes, city libraries, community centers, and other city-owned facilities.
Applicants must be legal residents of New Mexico, at least 18 years old. City employees and their families may submit works priced under $1,000. All submissions must be framed with museum-quality framing in new condition and ready for immediate display. The Arts Board intends to purchase artworks priced within an average range of $500 to $5,000 framed. Applicants must submit up to two existing artworks, a statement under 500 words describing the work(s) with medium, dimensions, year of completion, and cost, and a current CV/resume not exceeding 500 words. Only one work will be chosen for purchase from each artist's submissions. If a submitted work is sold prior to notification, no substitutes will be allowed.
