About This Call

Alaska Watercolor Society 48th Annual Juried Exhibition – Virtual. Open to all artists 18 years or older living in the United States. Paintings must be primarily aqua media (watercolor, acrylic, casein, gouache, egg tempera, water-based ink, and water-soluble crayon or pencil) over any flat, two-dimensional surface, matted and framed under clear acrylic or glass. Water-soluble oil media are not allowed. If pastel or paper collage (created by the artist) is used, they must be in conjunction with aqua media and the aqua media must be the dominant element. Minimum image size 8x10 inches, maximum image size 22x30 inches. Works must be completed from June 1, 2020 onward. Work is limited to two entries per artist. Works previously shown in an AKWS juried exhibition are disqualified. Works must be original. Paintings done under instruction are allowed if the choice or arrangement of subject matter is the artist's, not the teacher's, and the teacher has not painted on the artwork.

Entries must be submitted through CaFE.org by June 1, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. The nonrefundable entry fee for up to three paintings is $45. Payment can be made by credit card or PayPal through CaFE.org. Digital photos must be correctly oriented and show the full picture without frame or mat, faithfully reproducing the original painting. Public entry review will be held virtually on June 8. Notifications will be e-mailed for accepted paintings on July 6 and posted at www.akws.org.

Juror: Andy Evansen, Signature Member of AWS, PAPA, RRWS, TWSA. Evansen began painting watercolors in the mid-1990s and is known for capturing landscapes with economy of brushstroke and luminosity.
