Alaska Watercolor Society 46th Annual Juried Exhibition

The Alaska Watercolor Society invites artists to submit work for the 46th Annual Juried Exhibition. The entry deadline is June 1, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. The entry fee is $10 for one or two paintings. Artists may submit 1-2 digital images of their work through CaFE (www.callforentry.org). Juror Sue Archer will select accepted works, with notifications emailed the week of July 1st. Award selection will be announced at the virtual opening on August 7th.

Eligibility is open to all artists 18 years or older living in the United States. Paintings must be primarily aqua media (watercolor, acrylic, casein, gouache, egg tempera, water-based ink, and water-soluble crayon or pencil) over any flat, two-dimensional surface. Water-soluble oil media are not allowed. If pastel or paper collage is used, it must be in conjunction with aqua media with aqua media as the dominant element. Work is limited to two entries per artist. Works previously shown in an AKWS juried exhibition are disqualified. Works must be original and completed from June 1, 2018 onward. Minimum image size is 8x10 inches; maximum is 22x30 inches. Paintings done under instruction are allowed if the choice and arrangement of subject matter is solely the artist's and the teacher has not painted on the artwork.

Accepted local artists who choose to display their paintings at 2 Friends Gallery in Anchorage must hand-deliver matted and framed work under clear glass or acrylic by August 5. Frames should be no wider than 4 inches with white or off-white mats. Paintings must be prewired for hanging. A 40% commission will be retained by 2 Friends Gallery on all paintings sold during the exhibition. The virtual exhibition will be presented on AKWS.org on August 7, along with Sue Archer's exhibition remarks in video form. The opening reception is August 7, 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at 2 Friends Gallery. Artists may pick up unsold paintings by September 3 at 5 p.m.
