About This Call

The Alaska Watercolor Society, formed in 1974 as a not-for-profit organization, sponsors an annual juried watercolor exhibition open to all artists 18 years and older living in the United States.

Eligibility: Open to artists 18 years or older living in the United States. Paintings must be primarily aqua media (watercolor, acrylic, casein, gouache, egg tempera, water-based ink, and water-soluble crayon or pencil) over natural or synthetic paper, matted and framed under clear acrylic or glass. Water-soluble oil media are not allowed. If pastel or paper collage is used, it must be in conjunction with aqua media with aqua media as the dominant element. Work is limited to two entries per artist. Works previously shown in an AKWS juried show or done under instruction are not eligible. Works must be original, minimum image size 8x10 inches, maximum image size 22x30 inches, and less than 2 years old.

Submission: Digital entries must be submitted through CaFE.org by June 1, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Entry fee is $30 for one or two paintings (nonrefundable). Payment can be made by credit card through CaFE.org or by check payable to Alaska Watercolor Society, mailed to P.O. Box 90714, Anchorage, AK 99509. Initial selection will be made by juror Carl Purcell based on digital images. Acceptance letters will be emailed the week of July 8, 2016. Award selection will be made from actual paintings on August 2 at the First Congregational Church in Anchorage. Accepted paintings must be matted and framed under clear glass or acrylic, with white or off-white mat surfaces. Frames should be no wider than 4 inches and simple in design. All accepted entries must be hand-delivered or shipped with prepaid postage. A $25 service charge applies for out-of-town artist delivery. Works must be for sale; Sevigny's Gallery retains a 50% commission on all sales. For further information, contact John Beebee at (907) 333-2563 or [email protected].
