About This Call
The Connie Boochever Artist Fellowship recognizes and assists Alaska emerging artists of exceptional talent. A select number of $2,500 fellowships will be awarded for Visual Arts, including Film, Digital & Media Arts. Emerging artists are defined as having significant potential yet who are under recognized and have not received widespread acknowledgement as established creators from fellow artists and other arts professionals. The term "emerging" refers to professional accomplishments and recognition, not to stylistic evolution.
Individual applicants must be legal residents of Alaska, 18 years of age or older, not be a full-time student or enrolled in any art-related degree or certification program, and not have received a state of Alaska fellowship grant during the two state fiscal years preceding the year of this application. Applicants must not propose a collaborative project. Applications must include an online application form through CaFÉ, a resume or profile describing training and experience, and work samples. Visual artists must submit 10 images of work completed within the last two years. Film and Digital Media artists may mail a CD or DVD (not exceeding 15 minutes) prior to the deadline, and must also upload 10 images as placeholders to complete the CaFÉ application.
A panel comprised of Alaskan artists in the respective fields being awarded will review applications based on quality of work, demonstrated artistic activity and consistent focus, the extent to which the fellowship furthers the applicant's artistic career, and definition of an emerging artist as it relates to the applicant. Fellowship recipients will be notified no later than October 15, 2011. Recipients must expend fellowship funds by June 30, 2012, maintain Alaska residency throughout the fellowship year, maintain complete financial records, and acknowledge funding support in brochures, news releases, programs and other printed material. For assistance, contact the Alaska State Council on the Arts at (907) 269-6610 or toll free in Alaska 1-888-278-7424.
