About This Call
Creative Capital's Core Weekend Professional Development Program (PDP) is an intensive two-and-a-half day workshop for Alaskan artists in Film/Video, Performing Arts, and Visual Arts disciplines. The workshop focuses on business management, strategic planning, fundraising, marketing, and promotion through lectures, peer critiques, interactive exercises, and written assignments. Participants begin with short presentations of their own artwork, followed by the Core curriculum and topic-specific sessions tailored to participants' needs. The workshop concludes with individual consultations providing one-on-one advice from workshop leaders.
Key skills covered include strategic planning and goal setting, financial planning basics, running an art practice as a small business, improved communication techniques, fundraising strategies, marketing and networking, and online promotion best practices. Participants receive the Artist's Tools Handbook and the PDP Strategic Planning Workbook, and develop a personalized plan of action based on their career goals.
Eligibility: Alaskan artists with a track record of ongoing artistic activity, clarity of artistic vision, and readiness to move to a new phase of their career. An ASCA panel will select twenty-four artists. The workshop is scheduled for May 2-4, 2014 in Anchorage, with mandatory attendance throughout all 2.5 days. A $100 fee covers materials and meals; $500 travel grants are available for most participants outside Anchorage. The registration fee must be prepaid by April 24, 2014. Applications must include a letter of interest, CV or resume, and at least five work samples completed in the last two years.
