About This Call
The Alaska State Council on the Arts, on behalf of the Alaska Court System, is requesting applications from artists for interior durable media artwork for the recently renovated lobby in the Boney Courthouse Building at 303 K Street, Anchorage, Alaska.
This call is open to all professional artists residing in Alaska and the Pacific Northwest Region of the United States. Applicants must be practicing visual artists; applications from architects, landscape architects, or other design professionals will not be considered unless included as part of an artist-led team. The total art budget is $275,000 USD, which includes all costs of design, materials, framing, hanging hardware, artwork transportation, special handling fees, photographic documentation, liability and automobile insurance (if applicable), and an identifying plaque. The main lobby windows and mezzanine balcony are available for suspended artwork, applied artwork, glass, or other durable media. The space prohibits freestanding sculpture, two-dimensional work, and artwork that obscures visibility at the secured entrance. Artwork must be designed for minimal maintenance and cleaning, be permanent and designed to last the life of the building or up to 50 years, be ADA compliant, and include safety glass if applicable.
Applications must include: a one-page letter of interest describing your approach to public art, connection to the project themes, why your medium suits this building, and how your work is priced; 10 digital images of past work created in the past 10-15 years; a resume no more than two pages; and names, titles, and phone numbers for three professional references. The Art Selection Committee will review applications and contact finalists prior to April 30, 2016. Art should be installed as soon as installation can be coordinated with the project manager, but no later than June 2017. Requests for additional information may be directed to Andrea Noble-Pelant at [email protected] or 907-269-6610.
