About This Call

The Alaska State Council on the Arts, on behalf of the Alaska Court System, is requesting applications from professional artists residing in Alaska for the purchase of wall-hung artwork for two recently renovated courthouse buildings: the Boney Courthouse Building at 303 K Street, Anchorage, and the Kenai Courthouse at 125 Trading Bay Drive in Kenai.

The total art budget is $20,000 USD for the Anchorage Courthouse and $50,000 USD for the Kenai Courthouse. Installation sites include basement, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floor public lobbies of the Boney courthouses and the new public lobby of the Kenai courthouse. Minimum finished artwork size is 24" width x 20" length; maximum is 80" width x 60" length. Selected artists' budgets include all costs of design, framing, hanging hardware, artwork transportation, special handling fees, photographic documentation, liability and automobile insurance (if applicable), and an identifying plaque. Artwork must be priced no higher than $10,000 per piece.

Applicants must be Alaskan residents and practicing visual artists. Work must be of high quality and created in the last five years. Artwork of all media will be considered as long as it can be hung securely on a wall without site modification. The committee requests artwork that is appropriate for the court system environment, calming and interesting for visitors, clients and staff, and associated with Alaska's geography and/or Alaska Native cultures. Materials must be permanent and designed to last up to 50 years. Artwork must be original, not a reproduction or copyright violation, and generally suitable for display in public buildings. Applications must include an artist statement, 6-10 digital images of work currently available for purchase, and a resume no more than two pages. The Art Selection Committee will review applications and contact finalists prior to April 30, 2016. Art installation should be coordinated with the project manager but no later than June 15, 2016. Selected artists will be required to sign an agreement granting the Alaska Court System rights to publicly display the work and make derivative expressions limited to photographs for documentary, archival, and publication purposes.
