About This Call
The Alaska State Council on the Arts Percent for Art Program is requesting qualifications from artists for artwork to be commissioned for the Department of Fish and Game Anchorage Sport Fish Hatchery located in Anchorage, Alaska at Elmendorf Air Force Base. The estimated total art budget is $700,000 USD.
The Art Committee requests qualifications for two locations: Interior – Visitor Center Corridor (approximately $300,000) and Exterior – Entry point, Building Façade (approximately $400,000). This RFQ is open to all statewide and national artists and teams of artists. Artists may be considered for more than one site. Up to five semi-finalists may be selected for each location and will be paid to develop detailed design proposals.
The Anchorage Sport Fish Hatchery is designed as the largest indoor fish hatchery in North America. The building features a 400-foot long clerestory window, a Visitor Area with a walkway overlooking Production Areas, office space, meeting room, shop space, garage, and two laboratories. Interior themes may include the history and natural science of hatchery operations, the life cycle of salmon, or sport fishing in Alaska. Exterior themes should be easily recognizable and suggest the function and mission of the building. Artwork must be permanent, designed to last 50 years, and endure substantial public use with minimal maintenance requirements. Installation must be completed before June 2011. Selected artists' budgets will include all costs of design, engineering, fabrication, installation, transportation, insurance, and documentation. State laws related to public construction, including licensing, insurance, bonding, and prevailing wage rates, may apply. For additional information, contact Andrea Noble at 907-269-6610 or [email protected].
