About This Call
The Alaska State Council on the Arts, on behalf of the State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services, is requesting qualifications from professional artists residing in Alaska for interior artwork to be commissioned for the Alaska Veterans and Pioneer Home (AVPH) in Palmer, Alaska. The AVPH is an assisted living facility and State Veteran Home providing domiciliary care to 79 residents, of whom 47 are veterans. The facility was originally constructed in 1971 and upgraded to a veteran home in 2006.
The Art Selection Committee is requesting artwork based in realism that creates a sense of history and honor for the populations being served. Artwork should portray a story connected to the residents and veterans of the AVPH. The artwork will be installed in the upper wall area of the entrance and hallway, with two locations: Area #1 approximately 17' wide by 56-67" high (curved top) and Area #2 approximately 9' wide by 30-43" high (curved top). Expected installation date is June 2015. The total art budget is $8,800 USD for one commissioned interior artwork, including all costs of design, engineering, fabrication, installation, transportation, special handling fees, special lighting if needed, photographic documentation, liability and automobile insurance, and an identifying plaque.
Artists must submit a one-page letter of interest describing their approach to public art, connection to the project themes, and why their medium would work with the building; 10 digital images of completed work from the past 10-15 years; a resume no more than two pages; and three professional references. Up to 5 finalists may be selected and could be interviewed. Finalists will be provided with detailed plans if invited to develop a paid proposal. Preference will be given to new commissions. For additional information, contact Andrea Noble-Pelant at [email protected], 907-269-6610, or toll free in Alaska at 888-278-7424.
