Alaska State Council on the Arts: 2015 Boochever Fellowship

The Connie Boochever Artist Fellowship recognizes and supports Alaska emerging artists of exceptional talent. Fellowships are awarded by the Connie Boochever Endowment through the Alaska Arts and Culture Foundation and administered by the Alaska State Council on the Arts. A select number of $2,500 fellowships will be awarded biennially with specific disciplines funded in alternating years. The 2015 category is visual art, including film, digital and media arts. Uses of fellowship funds are very broad but must be spent on activities related to the fellow's creative career.

Eligibility is limited to emerging artists living in Alaska and pursuing an art form on an ongoing basis. Applicants must be legal residents of Alaska, 18 years of age or older, and not be full-time students or enrolled in any art-related degree or certification program. Applicants must apply as individual artists, not as collaborative groups or teams. Emerging professional artists are defined as principal creators of new work who take risks and embrace challenges, have a developing voice that reveals significant potential, are rigorous in their approach to creation and production, have some evidence of professional achievement but not a substantial record of accomplishment, and are not recognized as established by other artists, curators, producers, critics, and arts administrators.

Applications must include a resume and work samples (10 images required; film or media artists may also submit up to 3 digital video files). Work samples should reflect work completed within the last two years. A panel comprised of Alaskan artists in the disciplines being awarded will review qualified applications. Fellowship recipients will be notified by October 15, 2015. Recipients must expend fellowship funds by June 30, 2016, maintain Alaska residency throughout the fellowship year, maintain complete financial records, and acknowledge funding support in brochures, news releases, programs and other printed material.
