About This Call
The Connie Boochever Artist Fellowship recognizes and supports Alaska emerging artists of exceptional talent. Fellowships are awarded by the Connie Boochever Endowment through the Alaska Arts and Culture Foundation and administered by the Alaska State Council on the Arts. A select number of $2,500 fellowships will be awarded biennially with specific disciplines funded in alternating years. Funds must be spent on activities related to the fellow's creative career.
The 2013 fellowship is open to emerging artists in Performing Arts and Literary disciplines, including musicians, composers, choreographers, dancers, playwrights/screenwriters, actors/directors, writers, and poets. Applicants must be legal residents of Alaska, at least 18 years old, not full-time students or enrolled in art-related degree or certification programs, and pursuing their art form on an ongoing basis. Emerging professional artists are defined as principal creators of new work who take risks and embrace challenges, have a developing voice revealing significant potential, are rigorous in their approach to creation and production, have some evidence of professional achievement but not a substantial record of accomplishment, and are not recognized as established artists by other artists, curators, producers, critics, and arts administrators.
Applications must be submitted through the CaFE system by August 30, 2013 at 11:59 p.m. MDT and include a resume and appropriate work samples. Work samples should reflect work completed within the last two years. Requirements vary by discipline: musicians and composers submit up to 15 minutes of audio or video; choreographers and dancers submit up to 15 minutes of video; playwrights and screenwriters submit up to 20 pages or three one-act plays/screenplays; actors and directors submit up to 15 minutes of video; writers submit up to 20 pages of fiction, creative nonfiction, or creative prose; poets submit up to 10 poems. A panel of Alaskan artists in the relevant disciplines will review qualified applications based on artistic quality, demonstrated artistic activity, career development, and emerging artist status. Fellowship recipients will be notified by October 15, 2013. Recipients must expend funds by June 30, 2014, maintain Alaska residency throughout the fellowship year, maintain complete financial records, and acknowledge funding support in all publicity materials. For assistance, contact (907) 269-6610 or toll-free 1-888-278-7424.
