Alaska Positive - 2025

Alaska Positive is a juried photography exhibition that has encouraged photography as an art form in Alaska since 1970. Now in its 55th year, the exhibition highlights the role of Alaskan photographers in today's visual culture. The exhibition opens December 5, 2025 at the Alaska State Museum in Juneau and runs through March 7, 2026, then travels to museums throughout Alaska.

The competition is open to Alaska residents 18 years of age or older. Each person may enter up to four photographic works. All work must be original, completed within the last three years, and not previously shown in statewide juried competitions. Any work using photographic processes is eligible, except AI-generated images. The entry fee is $25. Initial digital submissions are due October 17, 2025 by 9:59 PM Alaska Time. Artists selected from the initial judging will be notified and must submit exhibition-ready matted photographs by November 21, 2025 for final judging.

The juror is Patrice Aphrodite Helmar, a photographer and artist whose work addresses issues of labor, class, queerness, and representation. Awards include a Juror's Choice Award and two Awards of Recognition, sponsored by the Friends of the State Library, Archives, and Museum. The juror may also select photographs for Honorable Mention.
