Alaska Fiber Arts Residency

The Alaska Fiber Arts Residency seeks an artist exploring the relationships between wearable art and fashion. The residency supports designers working in fashion, costume design, sculpture and/or associated fields, particularly those whose practice is experimental and hard to define.

The one-month residency takes place in October 2017 in Homer, Alaska. Eligible applicants are mid-career and established artists with leadership and teaching skills, open to all US artists. The residency is sponsored by Homer Fiber Arts Collective and includes a $2,000 cash stipend, $500 travel allowance, lodging in a private room with shared kitchen and living area above the arts center, and a $500 materials budget. During the four-week residency, the artist will produce at least three wearable art pieces for exhibition and conduct intensive collaborations with local participants through workshops and projects exploring relationships between art and fashion. Work by the artist and local participants will be presented at the Homer Fiber Art Collective's annual Wearable Arts Runway Show. The artist is invited to bring a previous body of work (preferably wearable art) for exhibition in Bunnell's Gallery during the residency.
