About This Call
Bunnell Street Arts Center's Alaska AIR Artist-in-Residency program seeks international, US, and Alaska artists to create new work and deeply engage the community. The program aims to strengthen the social, physical, and economic fabric of Homer through the arts by addressing themes including accessibility, inclusion, sustainability, skills sharing and exchange, enhancing community well-being, and artistic strategies to build community connection. Mediums include visual, literary, and performing arts; social and civic practice; ephemeral art; moving image; movement and dance; and music composition and performance.
Alaska AIR is a juried residency program with applications accepted September 1 to October 31 annually. Applicants are notified by December 31. The $25 application fee includes needs-based waivers available upon request (email [email protected]). One to four fully-funded residencies are awarded annually, with additional or partially-funded residencies possible as funding and scheduling permit. Residencies are generally scheduled October to April and last approximately one month.
Residencies include a $2,000 stipend (pro-rated for shorter/longer stays), round-trip travel to Homer (up to $1,000 value), lodging in a private room with private bath at the Old Town Bed & Breakfast or similar accommodations, and a $250 materials stipend. The studio is Bunnell's 1,000 square-foot main exhibition gallery, open to the public during regular hours. Facilities include wireless internet, piano, sound system, light board and theater lights, HD video equipment, printing presses, and workshop furniture. Alaska AIR artists are expected to provide an artist talk or presentation and a workshop, outreach event, or presentation of work created during the residency. Applications require an artist statement, statement of intent and residency proposal, preferred residency months, resume, and 3-5 work samples (images, audio, video, or written work as PDF).
