About This Call

Bunnell Street Arts Center's Alaska AIR Artist-in-Residency program seeks international, US, and Alaska artists to create new work and deeply engage the community. The program aims to strengthen the social, physical, and economic fabric of Homer through the arts by addressing themes including accessibility, inclusion, decolonization, sustainability, skills sharing and exchange, community well-being, and artistic strategies to build connection. Mediums include visual, literary and performing arts, social and civic practice, ephemeral art, moving image, movement, music composition, and performance.

Alaska AIR is a juried residency program with applications accepted September 15 – October 31 annually. The $25 application fee includes needs-based waivers available upon request. Applicants are notified by December 31. Applications should include an artist statement, statement of intent and residency proposal, preferred months of residency, resume, and 3-5 work samples (up to 5 images, 3 audio files, and 3 video files; writers may submit up to 10 pages of written work as PDF). One to four residencies are awarded annually as funding and scheduling permit.

Residencies are generally scheduled October-April for approximately one month. Artists receive a $2,000 stipend (pro-rated for shorter/longer stays), round-trip travel to Homer (up to $1,000 value), private lodging with shared kitchen and living area at the Old Town Bed & Breakfast, and a $250 materials stipend. The studio is Bunnell's 1,000 square-foot main exhibition gallery, open to the public during regular hours. Facilities include wireless internet, piano, sound system, video equipment, printing press, and workshop furniture. Artists are expected to provide an artist talk, workshop or outreach event, and share work created during residency through installation, exhibit, performance, reading, screening, or other event in consultation with Bunnell's Artistic Director. Bunnell Street Arts Center is located at 106 W. Bunnell Ave., Homer, AK 99603. Contact: [email protected] or (907) 235-2662.
