About This Call
The City of Alamosa is accepting entries for the seventh annual Alamosa ARTscape Art on Loan Program, a public art program open to all professional and amateur artists. Artists may submit up to three works. Submissions must be more than two feet in height and valued at no more than $20,000. Judging will take place in March 2023, and 15 pieces will be selected based on originality and suitability for outdoor display.
Selected artwork will remain on display for one year. Artists receive a $750 honorarium for selected artwork delivered by the due date, plus two nights lodging in a local hotel on the night prior to installation and night of installation. Throughout the display period, community members will vote for a "People's Choice Award," with a $1,000 prize awarded to the selected artist. If artwork is sold as a result of being on display, the City of Alamosa will process the sale and keep 20% of the sale price as commission.
Artwork must meet specific mounting requirements: pedestal-mounted pieces must not exceed 23 inches and have a separate metal base for welding; ground-mounted pieces must have brackets extending beyond the piece with 1/2-inch pre-cut holes for drilling. The City will be responsible for installation with artist assistance at a location selected by the City. Artwork must require little to no maintenance. The City will insure artwork against vandalism, theft, or damage caused by motor vehicles, but will not be liable for degradation from normal wear and tear or weathering. Installation occurs September 15, 2023, as part of the Alamosa ARTs Festival (September 15-16) in downtown Alamosa, featuring an artist reception and partner events. Application deadline: February 24, 2023.
