About This Call
The City of Alamosa is accepting entries for the fourth annual "Alamosa ARTscape" Art on Loan Program, a public art program open to all professional and amateur artists. Artists may submit up to three works. Submissions must be more than two feet in height and valued at no more than $25,000. Judging will take place in March 2020, and 15 pieces will be selected based on their originality and suitability for outdoor display. Applications are due by February 17, 2020, with selection notifications after April 5, 2020.
Selected artwork will be displayed throughout downtown Alamosa for a one-year period. The artist will deliver artwork to the installation site on September 18, 2020, as part of the Alamosa ARTs Festival (September 18-19). The City of Alamosa will be responsible for installation and will insure the artwork against vandalism, theft, or damage caused by motor vehicles, but will not be liable for degradation from normal wear and tear or weathering. The artwork must be secured and tamper proof on a steel plate welded to a 24" round pedestal (unless otherwise noted for life-sized sculptures) and must require little to no maintenance.
Selected artists will receive a $750 honorarium upon on-time delivery, plus two nights lodging in a local hotel. Throughout the display period, community members will vote for a "People's Choice Award" with a $1,000 prize. If artwork is sold as a result of being on display, the City will process the sale and retain 20% as commission. The City will promote and advertise the artwork during the display period, beginning with an artist reception and public event the weekend of installation.
