About This Call

Alameda Point Partners (APP) is inviting artists as individuals or teams to submit qualifications to create public artwork at two locations within Site A at Alameda Point, a former Naval Air Station in Alameda, California. The total budget for this initiative is $300,000.

Two locations for artwork have been approved by the City of Alameda. Location 1 is at the gateway to the former Naval Air Station at the median or western corners of the intersection of Main Street and West Atlantic Avenue. Location 2 is in the waterfront park along Seaplane Lagoon, a 6.7-acre area with views of the San Francisco skyline. Artists are welcome to suggest alternate locations for evaluation. Selected artwork must be permanent (50+ year life), durable and able to withstand high wind, saltwater, direct sun, rain, and seismic activity, safe, and require minimal maintenance. Acceptable artworks include sculpture, painting/mural, mosaic, crafts, mixed media, and restored artifacts.

The $300,000 budget covers artists' fees, fabrication, structural engineering, transportation, installation, signage, and necessary infrastructure. Finalists will receive a $1,500 stipend per artist or artist team to develop artwork proposals. Submission requirements include contact information, statement of interest, resume/curriculum vitae, documentation of past projects, proposed budget, and three references. Work samples must include a minimum of 4 and maximum of 8 images, with up to 3 audio files and 3 video files permitted (total samples between 4-10). Submissions must be delivered electronically by September 18, 2019 at 5:00pm. Finalists will be contacted on October 11, 2019, and selections will be announced on December 20, 2019. Selected artwork will be subject to review and approval by the City of Alameda Public Art Commission.
