About This Call

The Alameda County Arts Commission (ACAC) invites artists and artist teams from the 9 counties of the San Francisco Bay Area to apply for potential inclusion in the 2013 Artist Registry, a prequalified artist pool for upcoming public art opportunities. Many of Alameda County's capital improvement projects include a Percent-for-Art Program in which professional artists are commissioned to make artwork associated with these projects. The opportunities may include exterior and interior projects, be appropriate for artists working in a variety of materials and styles, and have a range of project budgets. Many opportunities will be for artists to make a new series of smaller artworks in the studio; artists who make two-dimensional, low-relief, or wall sculptural artwork are encouraged to apply.

The Artist Registry is open to professional artists who live, are permanently employed, or rent/own an artist's studio in one of the 9 counties of the San Francisco Bay Area (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, Solano, Sonoma, San Francisco, San Mateo, and Santa Clara). For artist teams, all team members must be Bay Area artists. Artists must be 18 years or older. Artists are not eligible if they have an active/open public art contract with Alameda County at the time the RFQ closes, or if they have received and completed 2 or more contracts with Alameda County in 2006 or later commissioning them to make new artwork. Alameda County employees, Arts Commissioners, Public Art Advisory Committee members, and members of other standing ACAC committees are not eligible. Family members of Arts Commission staff are also not eligible.

Individual contracts will generally range from approximately $5,000 to $100,000. Contracts may be for a single site-specific artwork or a series of smaller artworks (approximately 3-5 artworks). The artwork budgets include all costs associated with concept, design, site preparation, fabrication, transportation, and installation of the artwork and any required insurance, taxes, licenses, or permits. Artists who qualify for the Registry will be considered for projects as they arise at facilities offering health care, social services, public protection, justice, library, and other government programs. Projects are located throughout Alameda County and include new building construction and renovation projects. The Arts Commission intends to keep the Registry active for approximately 2 years. Application deadline: April 30, 2013 at 10:59 p.m. Pacific Time. Submit 10 images of past work.
