About This Call

A.I.R. Studio Paducah is an artist-in-residence studio and efficiency apartment located in the LowerTown Arts District in Paducah, Kentucky. Over 65 artists from around the U.S. and abroad have participated since 2004, with stays ranging from 2 weeks to 3 months. The residency offers time and private space for independent work, fresh inspiration, contemplation, and experimentation.

The facility combines a light-saturated studio with a storefront gallery and furnished efficiency apartment. The studio features ample wall space, skylights, worktables, shelving, utility sink, and rear dock. A writing nook with desk, ergonomic chair, and futon is available for writers and composers. The living space includes a sleeping area, complete kitchen, small dining area, bath with shower, and appliances (electric range, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, washer/dryer). Linens, cookware, coffee maker, and tableware are provided. Free wifi is available. The grounds include a side patio and sculpture garden. The front entrance and interior doors are wheelchair accessible.

A.I.R. welcomes self-motivated, focused artists age 21 and above working in visual art, fibers/textiles, photography, architecture, literary arts, and composing. Collaborative pairs and couples are welcome. Residents may exhibit their work, conduct a workshop, or hold an open studio event. The location is within walking distance of studios, galleries, the National Quilt Museum, Paducah School of Art and Design, and the County Library. Regional attractions include Kentucky Lake, Lake Barkley, and Land Between the Lakes.

Residency fees are $550 per two-week period or $875 per month, utilities included. The application fee is $25, and a $100 security deposit is required at the start of the residency. Food, supplies, travel, and local transportation costs are the resident's responsibility. Residencies are available from March 1, 2016 through December 31, 2016. Smoking, candles, and firearms are prohibited. Applications must include work samples and be submitted through the CaFE website. Applicants will be notified of acceptance no later than December 19, 2015.
