About This Call

A.I.R. STUDIO PADUCAH is an artist-in-residence studio and efficiency apartment located in the heart of Paducah, Kentucky's Lower Town Arts District at 621 Madison Street. Over 60 artists from around the country and overseas have participated in residencies since 2004, ranging from 2 weeks to 3 months. The program is ideal for serious artists seeking undistracted creative time, a sabbatical, or a working vacation retreat. Collaborative pairs and couples are welcome.

The facility combines a light-saturated studio with skylights, ample wall space, worktables, shelving, utility sink and rear dock, plus a completely furnished efficiency apartment with kitchen, dining area, bath, and washer/dryer. A storefront gallery space is available for residents wishing to exhibit work. Wireless internet is free. The setting offers flexibility to work alone in small town peace or engage with the local arts community. Located six blocks from the Ohio River, the arts district is within walking distance of the Paducah School of Art & Design, National Quilt Museum, Yeiser Art Center, Maiden Alley Cinema, and Carson Performing Arts Center. Regional attractions include Kentucky Lake, Lake Barkley, and Land Between the Lakes.

Eligibility: Self-motivated, focused artists age 21 and above working in 2D/3D visual art, fiber, photography, architecture, writing, or composition. Work samples required: Visual artists submit 10 images or up to 3 videos; architects submit 3 project images; writers submit 10 pages prose or 5 pages poetry (minimum 3 poems); composers submit 2 scores and 2 listening files. Entry fee: $25. Residency cost: $550 per two-week period or $875 per month, utilities included. 2015 residencies run March 1 through December 31, 2015. Application deadline: November 1, 2014 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Applicants will be notified by December 15, 2014.
