Air Force Academy Class of 2024 - Class Painting Commission

Since 1975, the United States Air Force Academy's graduating classes have been commissioned with a special painting pertaining to their graduating class year. A majority of class paintings capture depictions of airpower and may include the class crest, school campus, mascot, class colors (gold, blue, silver, and red), and class exemplar (LeRoy Homer Jr.).

This is a commission opportunity for a 24"x36" (or larger) original 2D artwork in watermedia, oil, acrylics, or dry media (pencil, pastels, ink, etc.). The painting must be in landscape or portrait format, original and handmade by the artist, and must be able to be photocopied or photographed. There is no entry fee. Eligible applicants include Colorado residents, USAFA alumni, USAFA Class of '24 relatives, and active/veteran/retired/reserve members of the Armed Forces.

Applicants should submit at least 3 pieces of 2D artwork to showcase techniques, style, and composition, along with a written proposal addressing: why you are interested in this commission, what elements you would include in the painting if selected, and any additional information for consideration. An optional concept sketch or short paragraph may also be submitted. Application deadline is August 7, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Jury dates are August 8-18, with notification on August 25. The completed painting must be shipped by January 15, 2024.
