About This Call
The Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford, in cooperation with the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford and over 28 community agencies, institutions and synagogues, is seeking an artist to create an outdoor sculpture for the Aim Chai endowment campaign. The artwork should embody the spirit and values of the campaign—including community, continuity, collaboration, sustainability, legacy, inclusiveness, and generosity—and serve as a place of contemplation and gathering for the community.
The sculpture will be located on a 25' x 12' footprint adjacent to the Community Services Building on the Foundation's campus. The artist should consider incorporating donor recognition into the design while maintaining the overall aesthetic. The work may include interactive elements and should accommodate community gathering spaces such as benches or tables. The artist is responsible for creation, transportation, and installation of the piece, with all costs included in the submitted budget. The Foundation will prepare the site.
Eligibility: Artists should reside or have studios within greater New England, eastern New York, or northern New Jersey. Preference will be given to artists with demonstrated success in outdoor public works and projects of similar scale and scope. Up to 5 finalists will be selected to submit comprehensive designs, scale models, complete budgets, and timelines. Finalists will receive a stipend to create mockups and will present formally to the committee. The selected artist will be awarded a contract with installation expected by October 31, 2016. Initial proposals are limited to 3 submissions per applicant and must include 1-6 images.
