About This Call
The fourth annual AHA Festival of Progressive Arts will take place on September 14, 2014 in the Railyard Plaza of Santa Fe. This call is for installations located in the Railyard Plaza on the day of the festival. The event is a combination arts fair and music festival that showcases work blending disciplines, pushing boundaries, and redefining genres, made by emerging, underexposed, or uniquely-positioned artists. The festival showcases approximately 75 artists and musicians and draws a crowd of about 2,500 people.
Eligibility is open to all artists or artist teams who are legal residents of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, and Utah. Artists in all stages of their careers are encouraged to apply. Up to $1,000 is available per project, covering all fees and expenses including materials, equipment, labor, permits, engineering documents, insurance, taxes, travel, installation, shipping, identification plaque, and documentation. At the end of the installation, a permanent object (such as a framed photo or other display quality piece) must be created to become part of the State of New Mexico's Public Art collection.
The Santa Fe Railyard Plaza extends from the Railyard Water Tower on Market Street to Paseo de Peralta, between the Farmers Market Building and the railroad tracks. Artists cannot drill holes in site fixtures or attach items to trees or light poles. No artwork requiring concrete pads or environmentally damaging approaches will be considered. Media must be low maintenance, safe for children and adults, ADA compliant, and not leave a permanent mark on the environment when removed. Both seating and shade are limited; proposals providing one or both elements are encouraged but not required. Submissions must include a detailed project proposal with installation plan, budget, project title, and proposed permanent object(s); a current resume or curriculum vitae; and up to ten images and videos of project proposals or previously completed work with complete citations. Submission deadline: April 30, 2014 at 11:59 p.m. MDT.
