About This Call

Monmouth University's Center for the Arts is seeking artists and filmmakers aged fifty and older who identify as transgender, gender nonconforming, gender expansive, gender non-binary, or additional gender identity beyond the binary for a juried exhibition. The show will take place January 23 – March 10 in the Pollak Gallery & Theatre. Artwork can be any medium including photograph, painting, self-portrait, collage, sculpture, three-dimensional art, or film, but should not have been previously exhibited at the Pollak Gallery or Pollak Theater.

Submitted pieces should represent aspects of your life as a T/GNC individual. Artwork may reflect your journey (emotional, psychological, and/or physical) to live your authentic self and/or represent other experiences related to your gender identity. A short narrative must accompany any artwork and include your reflections on the experiences of living as a T/GNC individual. Films submitted should be related to the lives of T/GNC older adults and will be shown at the Pollak Theatre at least once during the exhibition dates.

Entry fee is $30 for up to 3 artworks/films. Each artist may submit up to 3 pieces. Submissions must include artist narrative, images/media of each piece, and artist bio. Only artwork of professional presentation will be accepted. Wall-hung items must be appropriately framed with sturdy wire hanging medium (no saw-tooth hangers or metal eyelets). Three-dimensional works must be stable or submitted with adequate display stands and cannot exceed 5' h x 3' w or weigh more than 75 pounds. Shipping/drop-off of accepted work is the responsibility of the artist. The call closes December 2, 2022, and participants will be notified by December 16, 2022. Contact Kelly Barratt at [email protected] or 732.263.5114 for more information.
