About This Call
Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs seeks professional artists to design and create a permanent large-scale marquee and sculptural landscape for the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center. The estimated project budget is $125,000. This is a site-specific opportunity for a landmark artwork at the corner of NW 62nd Street and NW 22nd Avenue that will serve as the main focal point of the center and invite community participation in featured events.
The marquee design must incorporate a full color LED screen (approximately 4' x 8' double-faced) with a minimum resolution of 10mm to announce featured events. The artist should propose the marquee size to be visible to patrons driving at 30-40 feet away. The artwork should be innovative, convey the spirit and cultural background of the center and community, and prominently identify the facility within the streetscape. Artists are encouraged to create a signature work using innovative materials and structures. The design must consider permanence and durability in Miami-Dade's harsh sunlight, winds, and rains, as well as local permitting requirements.
Eligibility is open to all professional artists and artist teams. Applications from architects, landscape architects, or other design professionals will not be considered unless included as part of an artist-led team. Miami-Dade employees and selection panelists' immediate family members are excluded. Finalists will be paid an honorarium of $800 to develop specific proposals. The project timeline is time-sensitive, with completion targeted for March 2015. Application deadline is June 6, 2014.
