About This Call
Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs through the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center Amadlozi Gallery invites professional visual artists residing in the United States to submit works for its 2015 season of juried exhibitions.
Three exhibitions are planned: Black History Month Opening Exhibition (January 7–February 28), exploring the diversity of the African diaspora in the US and around the world; Women's History Month Exhibition (March 5–31), contextualizing the contemporary Black female experience; and Visual Art Teachers Celebration Exhibition (September 5–30), which requires artists to be or have worked as visual arts teachers in an education facility.
The Amadlozi Gallery provides quality exhibits that are visually engaging, culturally enriching, and intellectually provocative. As one of the few art spaces located within the inner city of Miami-Dade County, it offers exhibition space and professional development opportunities for artists whose focus is the Black life experience, though it is open to all artists whose works meet professional standards and are sensitive to the community. Submissions will be judged on degree of artistic excellence, evidence of an established and recognized body of work over a sustained period of time, consistency in the submitted body of work, and appropriateness for the curatorial direction of the exhibition. Two-dimensional works must be framed and prepped for hanging or mounting. All works must be treated for termite infection. Artists may sell work while exhibiting; the gallery reserves the right to assess a commission no greater than 20%. Applicants must submit 10 images of previously completed work with accurate identification of medium, dimensions, date, location, client/agency, size, budget, completion date, and brief written description. Artists working in video, sound, installations, and kinetic sculpture may submit a 3-minute video, audio, or dynamic media file instead. An artist statement and current professional resume are also required. The call is open to experienced professional artists residing in the United States. Miami-Dade employees and selection panelists and their immediate family members are excluded. There is no application fee.
