About This Call
Adams County Visual Arts Commission seeks to commission a professional artist to create site-specific exterior sculpture(s) for the Adams County Human Services Center, opening in July 2017. Public art will be placed outside the main entrance and western side of the building, which will house over 780 government employees and serve over 500 residents daily.
Ideal submissions should create a functional art piece reflecting the historic orchard tree farm that early settlers planted in the early 1900s at this location. Water features are highly discouraged, though the selected artist may collaborate with landscape architects. Artists are encouraged to consider incorporating seating to establish a welcoming, accessible outdoor destination for the public.
Selected finalists (approximately two to three) will receive a maximum of $1,000 honorarium for travel and design fees following submission and presentation of a Design Proposal and model. The total project budget will not exceed $300,000. Evaluation criteria include the conceptual basis and preliminary concept statement, quality and aesthetics of past work, experience successfully designing and completing public art projects on time and in budget, and artist training and education. Finalists will present to the Adams County Visual Arts Commission and key stakeholders for final recommendation to the Adams County Board of County Commissioners. Work sample requirements: minimum 5 images, maximum 15 images; audio and video submissions optional (maximum 2 each).
