About This Call

The Adams County Visual Arts Commission is conducting an open entry competition to select an original, permanent, monumental public sculpture for the southeast entrance of the Adams County Government Center. The sculpture will be placed outside the entrance to the Clerk & Recorder's Office in an area highly visible from a major highway and to citizens entering the government complex. The Center is located at 124th Ave. and Sable Blvd., Brighton, Colorado, and is due to open in Spring 2011.

Eligibility and Requirements: Artists working in any three-dimensional outdoor medium are eligible to apply. Only original works designed specifically for this RFP will be considered. The artist must guarantee that the same work will not be placed within 100 miles of the site. Submissions must fit the ACVAC mission statement and be appropriate for the location and functions of the Government Center and Clerk & Recorder's Office. Particular attention will be paid to monumental submissions that are easily visible from a distance and reflect the customer care and service functions of the Government Center complex. The budget available is $125,000, including design, fabrication, transportation, delivery, installation, permits, insurance, and all associated expenses. Submissions must include at least one original proposal that addresses these requirements.

Selection Process: Based on initial submissions, the Adams County Visual Arts Commission will select finalists who will be asked to provide either a maquette/model or highly detailed drawings for further review. Each finalist will receive $500 for this phase. Finalists may be interviewed by Commission members. The Commission will make initial selection decisions and recommend to the Board of County Commissioners, who will make the final selection. An accompanied site visit will be held on September 16, 2010 from 10:00 am to noon. Maquettes are due February 21, 2011. Installation must be completed no later than September 23, 2011.
