About This Call
Atlanta Celebrates Photography (ACP) invites artist proposals for the ACP Public Art program, an integral component of the annual ACP festival in October. Since 1998, ACP has supported Atlanta's emergence as an international center for photography through an annual October festival and year-round programs. The Public Art program features temporary projects in diverse locations throughout Atlanta, reaching beyond traditional art venues and expanding how audiences perceive photography and lens-based media.
Eligibility: Any artist as an individual or team may apply, provided that the person(s) or firm responsible for fabrication and/or construction have previous experience in the proposed medium(s). Entry fee is none. Projects must involve lens-based or photographic media as an integral part of the piece, including images and/or video captured by a lens, media in which light sensitivity is a primary element, or reimagining the uses of photography. Projects relying heavily on complex or untested technologies or complex audience participation are discouraged.
Budget: $9,000 has been allocated, all-inclusive for design, construction/fabrication, transportation, delivery, site preparation, lighting (if applicable), insurance, consultant fees, installation and de-installation. Artist's travel and all other costs, including artist's fee, are included in this amount. If the proposed budget exceeds $9,000, the application must detail how the overage will be funded. Project dates: late September/early October 2012 through October, with removal planned for early November 2012. Applicants may propose sites but are responsible for obtaining permission and access from proper authorities. ACP can assist in securing appropriate site(s) if needed. Selection criteria include artistic merit, adherence to media guidelines, feasibility of construction and implementation, public safety/welfare, realistic and thorough budget, and audience experience.
